THE CAPE RACING SALES (“CRS”) BIG CAP RACE CONDITIONS
1. PRIZE MONEY
Prize money will be R5,000,000 (five million rand) with the distribution as follows:

The respective trainers and jockeys will receive 5% each in respect of the above allocation. Any additional commissions are at the discretion of the respective owners and in terms of any specific arrangements they may enter into with their relevant trainers and jockeys.
The groom of each runner will receive R12 500 irrespective of their particular horse’s finishing position. The groom of the winning horse will receive an additional R17,500.
2. RACE CONDITIONS
- The CRS Big Cap will be run over a distance of 1400m.
- For all graduates of the 2022 Cape Racing Sales Ready to Run and Unbroken 2yo Sale and all 2023 Cape Racing Sales.
- Conditions Race as per clause 3 below.
- Field limited to a maximum of sixteen (16) starters, plus up to six (6) emergency acceptors, such runners to be determined by the CRS Big Cap
- Committee at their sole discretion at final acceptances.

3. WEIGHTS
- Benchmark MR96=53kg; Max 62kg (no apprentice or jockey allowance)
- Sex Allowance of 2kg for fillies and mares
- Penalty for 3YO Grade 1 winners 2.5kg max
- Penalty for 3YO Grade 2 winners 1kg max
- Max weight for 3YO colts and geldings 60kg
- Max weight for fillies and mares 57.5kg
4. NOMINATION AND ACCEPTANCE
a. In consideration of payment of the slot fee, as per clause 6 below, the slot holder, as at the race acceptance date, will be entitled to an entry in the race
b. Final acceptances may only be made by the slot holder or their trainer representative.
c. Final declarations – dates to be advised.
5. DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY ACCEPTORS
a. A maximum of six (6) emergency acceptors may be declared for the CRS Big Cap.
b. Any emergency acceptors declared for the CRS Big Cap will be deemed to have accepted the CRS Big Cap conditions.
c. The list of emergency acceptors declared for the CRS Big Cap will not necessarily be in designated order of entry into the race in the event of a scratching.
d. In the event of a scratching from the CRS Big Cap which must be on production of a certified veterinary certificate, elevation of an emergency acceptor into the field will be made at the discretion of the applicable slot holder.
6. SLOT FEES AND DATES
a. The slot fee is R325 000 plus VAT (currently R48,750), to be paid in one non-refundable instalment to Cape Racing Equine (Pty) Ltd, and payable upon
presentation of invoice.

7. GENERAL MATTERS
a. The race will be conducted under the Rules and Constitution of Horseracing as regulated by the National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa (“NHA”), a copy of which is available on the NHRA website.
b. The race is scheduled to be run on Sunday 16 March 2025 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, Kenilworth, Cape Town, South Africa. If the race is cancelled (not postponed), or not run for any reason, including a force majeure event, then CRS will refund the slot fees within 14 days, and as a consequence thereof no prize money will be due and payable.
c. The CRS Big Cap Committee may, at their sole discretion, reject any application by a CRS slot holder or their trainer representative, should their account with Cape Racing Sales not be in good standing.
d. CRS, together with the CRS Big Cap Committee, may decline the nomination and/or acceptance of any horse in the race for any reason permissible under the Rules and Constitution of Horseracing in South Africa. Further, if the nomination and/or acceptance of a horse in the race is declined, or the horse is scratched or disqualified by the NHA, then the Rules and Constitution of Horseracing will apply in respect of any prize money that may have to be refunded and and/or redistributed.
e. CRS, together with the CRS Big Cap Committee, reserves the right to pro-rata the stakes for the race, should any of the 16 slots not be sold. In the event of fewer than 10 slots being sold, CRS reserves the right to cancel the race, and all slot fees will then be refunded.
f. All slot, nomination and acceptance/declaration fees shown are exclusive of VAT.
g. The CRS Big Cap Committee reserves the right to make – from time to time – any adjustment, alteration or modification to the race conditions, and which may include date and time changes for receiving nominations, payments and acceptances/declarations.
h. All currency amounts quoted are in South African Rand (ZAR)
8. SCRATCHINGS AND SUBSTITUTION OF EMERGENCY ACCEPTOR
8.1. If a slot holder’s horse is scratched before 7:30am on the day of the race:
a. On production of a certified veterinary certificate approved by the CRS Big Cap Committee and confirmed by the CRS Big Cap Committee approved
veterinarian, the slot holder will be permitted to select one of the remaining available emergency acceptors to run in the race on the terms and conditions set out below.
b. Without the production of a valid certified veterinary certificate as per clause 8.1a above, the slot holder will not be entitled to a runner in the race and will accordingly forfeit the right to any refund.
c. Where a horse declared by a slot holder is scratched, the slot holder must nominate the substituted emergency acceptor as soon as is practical, and not later than 2 hours (120 minutes) after the time of scratching. If an emergency acceptor has not been selected within this timeframe, the CRS Big Cap Committee may, at its discretion, assign a horse to that slot holder.
8.2. If a slot holder’s horse is scratched after 7:30am on the day of the race:
a. With or without the production of a certified veterinary certificate approved by the CRS Big Cap Committee and confirmed by the CRS Big Cap Committee approved veterinarian, then the slot holder will not be entitled to a runner in the race and the slot holder will accordingly forfeit the right to any refund.
8.3. In the event that an emergency acceptor is selected to run in the race in place of scratched horse, then the following terms and conditions are agreed between the slot holder and the owner(s) of the emergency acceptor:
a. The emergency acceptor is to run from the scratched horse’s barrier.
b. The prize money payment agreement must be confirmed in writing by both
parties and forwarded to the CRS Big Cap Committee not later than 2 hours (120 minutes) of acceptance of the emergency acceptor.
c. The jockey of any emergency acceptor running in the CRS Big Cap will wear the racing colours of the horse’s owner as per the NHA registration thereof.
