Prizemoney will be R7,500,000 with the distribution as follows :
The groom of the winner of the Gold Rush will receive a R50,000 Gold Rush bonus. The remaining 15 grooms of the accepted horses which take part in the Gold Rush will each receive a R10,000 Gold Rush bonus.
1. RACE CONDITIONS
• 1600 Metres
• For Three-Year-Old graduates of the 2022 CPYS.
• Weight for Age (No allowances for apprentices).
• Field limited to a maximum of sixteen (16) starters, plus up to six (6) emergency acceptors, to be determined by the Gold Rush Committee at final acceptance time.
• Only the official Gold Rush ticket holder application forms will be accepted.
• Application forms will be available on caperacingsales.co.za or contact firstname.lastname@example.org
• The 14 Gold Rush II tickets will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. Applications must be submitted via email to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
• 3yo Colt and Gelding 60kg.
• 3yo Filly 57.5kg.
3. NOMINATION AND ACCEPTANCE
3.1 In consideration of payment of the Prospector Fee in full, the Prospector, as at the race acceptances date, is entitled to an entry in the race.
3.2 Final acceptances are made by approved Prospectors/nominated representatives, based on an acknowledged agreement between parties.
3.3 FINAL DECLARATION – Dates to be advised.
4. DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY ACCEPTORS
4.1 Up to six emergency acceptors may be declared for the Gold Rush.
4.2 Any emergency acceptors declared for the Gold Rush must have accepted the Gold Rush conditions.
4.3 The horses to be declared as emergency acceptors for the Gold Rush will be chosen by the Gold Rush Committee.
4.4 The declaration of emergency acceptors for the Gold Rush will be a list only, and not necessarily an order of entry in the event of a scratching. The Prospector is permitted to select any one of the remaining available declared emergency acceptors at their discretion.
4.5 In the event of a scratching from the Gold Rush with a veterinary certificate, elevation of an emergency acceptor into the field will be upon selection by the Prospector who declared the scratched horse.
5. PROSPECTOR FEES AND DATES
5.1 The Prospector Fee is R400,000 plus VAT, to be paid in one non-refundable instalment to Cape Racing Sales, and payable 7 days after the 2022 Cape Premier Yearling Sale. * Exception per clause 6.3.
5.2 The two ‘buy-in’ slots will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. Applications should be made in writing to Cape Racing Sales within 12 months of the 2022 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
6. GENERAL MATTERS
6.1 The race will be conducted under the Rules of Racing, under the National Horseracing Authority of South Africa, a copy of which is available from the NHRA website.
6.2 The Gold Rush Committee may, at their absolute discretion, reject the application by a Prospector, should their account with Cape Racing Sales not be in good standing.
6.3 The race is scheduled to be run on Met Saturday in 2024 at Kenilworth Racecourse, Cape Town, South Africa. If the race is cancelled or not run for any reason, including a force majeure event, then Cape Racing Sales will refund the prospector fee within 7 days, and no prizemoney will be payable.
6.4 Cape Racing Sales, together with the Gold Rush Committee, may refuse the nomination and/or acceptance of any horse in the race for any reason permissible under the Rules of Racing. Further, if the nomination and/or acceptance of a horse in the race is refused, or the horse is scratched or disqualified under the Rules of Racing, then the Rules of Racing apply in respect of any prizemoney.
6.5 Cape Racing Sales, together with the Gold Rush Committee, reserves the right to pro-rata the stakes for the race, should any of the 16 slots not be sold. In the event of fewer than 10 slots being sold, Cape Racing Sales reserves the right to cancel the race, and all Prospectors’ fees will be refunded.
6.6 All prospector, nomination and acceptance fees shown are exclusive of VAT.
6.7 The Gold Rush Committee reserves the right to make – from time to time – any alteration or modification to the conditions governing the race, and to also alter the date and time for receiving nominations, payments, and acceptances.
6.8 All currency amounts quoted are in South African Rand.
7. SCRATCHINGS AND SUBSTITUTION OF EMERGENCY ACCEPTOR(S)
7.1 If a Prospector’s horse is scratched before 7.30 am on the day of the race:
7.1.1 With a certified veterinary certificate approved by the Gold Rush Committee and confirmed by the Gold Rush Committee approved veterinarian, then the Prospector will be permitted to select one of the remaining available emergency acceptors to run in the race on the terms and conditions set out below.
7.1.2 Without a veterinary certificate approved by the Gold Rush Committee and confirmed by the Gold Rush Committee approved veterinarian, then the Prospector will not be entitled to a runner in the race and the Prospector will forfeit the right to any prizemoney or refund.
7.1.3 Where a horse declared by a Prospector is scratched, the Prospector must nominate the emergency acceptor to take that horse’s place in the field as soon as practical, and not later than 120 minutes after the time of scratching. If an emergency acceptor has not been selected within this timeframe, the Gold Rush Committee may, at its discretion, assign a horse to that Prospector.
7.2 If a Prospector’s horse is scratched after 7.30 am on the day of the race:
7.2.1 With a certified veterinary certificate approved by the Gold Rush Committee and confirmed by the Gold Rush Committee approved veterinarian, then the Prospector will not be entitled to a runner in the race.
7.2.2 If a Prospector’s horse is scratched without a veterinary certificate approved by the Gold Rush Committee and confirmed by the Gold Rush Committee approved veterinarian, then the Prospector will not be entitled to a runner in the race and the Prospector will forfeit the right to any refund.
7.3 In the event that an emergency acceptor is selected to run in the race in place of a horse scratched by the Prospector, then the following terms and conditions are agreed between the Prospector and the owner(s) of the emergency acceptor:
7.3.1 The owner(s) and trainer of the emergency acceptor retain all responsibilities under the Rules of Racing.
7.3.2 The emergency acceptor is to run from the scratched horse’s barrier.
7.3.3 The prizemoney payment agreement must be confirmed in writing by both parties and forwarded to the Gold Rush Committee 120 minutes after acceptance of the emergency acceptor.
7.3.4 The Gold Rush Winning Owner’s Trophy will belong to the Prospector if the emergency acceptor wins The Gold Rush.
7.3.5 The jockey of any emergency acceptor running in the Gold Rush will wear the racing colours determined by the Prospector.
