BEACH BOMB, GIMME A NOTHER SHINE FOR SOUTH AFRICAN BLOODSTOCK
The South African bred pair of Beach Bomb and Gimme A Nother continue to underline the merit of the South African thoroughbred.
The two fillies ran second in Friday’s Gr 3 Sheepshead Bay Stakes and Gr 3 Modesty Stakes presented by Veritas Prime respectively.
Beach Bomb
Bred and raced by Drakenstein Stud, has enjoyed a fantastic year so far in 2025. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber and Beach Beauty has won or finished second in each of her three starts in 2025, with Beach Bomb claiming both the Gr 3 The Very One Stakes presented by My Racehorse and Gr 3 Orchid Stakes previously.
Under Javier Castellano, the Graham Motion trained Beach Bomb hit the front close home in the Sheepshead Bay stakes but was run out of it close home by Siyouni filly Bellezza. The winner was receiving four pounds from Beach Bomb, who was beaten a length and a half.
The classy Beach Bomb showed top-class form in South Africa, where she won four of eight starts including the 2023 Gr 1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas and 2024 Gr 1 Cartier Paddock Stakes beating SA Horse Of The Year Princess Calla.
Equus champion Gimme A Nother came from the back of the field to fly up to get second in the Modesty Stakes, beaten only by She Feels Pretty.

It was a fine performance from Gimme A Nother, who was making just her second start in the US. Winner She Feels Pretty, a graded stakes winner at two, three and four, is a top-class filly, whose victories include all of the 2024 Gr 1 American Oaks, 2024 Gr 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup and 2023 Gr1 Natalma Stakes.
Gimme A Nother is also trained by Graham Motion, the conditioner of champion South African sprinter Isivunguvungu. Motion said after the Modesty Stakes that he could aim Gimme A Nother at the Gr 1 New York Stakes on June 6th.
Equus Champion 3YO Filly of 2023-2024, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Gimme A Nother has either won or finished second in each of her nine starts. A first US graded win is surely not far off for Gimme A Nother!
Gimme A Nother is a daughter of multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight and Nother Russia, Equus Champion Older Female of 2017-2018.
