CRS GRADUATES IMPRESS AT HOLLYWOODBETS KENILWORTH ON MONDAY 21 APRIL

Several Cape Racing Sales graduates caught the eye in the racing meeting at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Monday 21 April.

Promising two-year-old North Point, a R375 000 purchase from the 2024 Breeze Up & Unbroken 2YO Sale, made it back to back wins when he won on Monday.

The Brett and James Crawford trained gelding raced just off the pace early on in the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Welcomes You Juvenile Plate before pulling clear 200m from home. From there, North Point stayed on strongly to win by three and a quarter lengths.

It was a convincing display from North Point, who appeared to have plenty in hand.

Consigned to the Breeze Up & Unbroken 2YO Sale by Paarl Diamant Estate, North Point was one of three winners on Monday for his owners Greg Bortz and Gina Goldsmith.

A son of William Longsword, North Point, who has won twice from four starts, is out of the Speightstown mare Little Bristol, a winning half-sister to Listed KwaZulu-Natal Stakes winner Mirage and to William Longsword’s useful daughter Shipholia.

Another two-year-old daughter to catch the eye on Monday was Randolph Hearst. In just his second start, the Justin Snaith trained colt raced midfield early on in the Cape Racing Wishes You A Happy Family Day Maiden Juvenile Plate. Randolph Hearst powered home to get up close home and win a shade cosily by half a length.

Both North Point and Randolph Hearst were ridden to victory by JP Van Der Merwe.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Monday’s winner was a R1 500 000 buy from the 2024 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Randolph Hearst, who put up a scintillating gallop prior to Monday’s race, is a son of multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight, and the winning Fort Wood mare Babe Paley, a full-sister to Gr 1 SA Fillies Classic winner Athina and  three-parts sister to Gr 1 SA Guineas winner Heir Apparent.

The colt races for Greg Bortz and Gina Goldsmith, Mukund Gujaadhur, Rikesh Seewoolam and the Wernars family.
