Military Command takes all in the R1.5 million CRS Slipper

Trainer Peter Muscutt celebrated a big win on Sunday when his exciting charge Military Command made all to win the Cape Racing Sales Cape Slipper (1200m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.

Under log-leading jockey Craig Zackey, Military Command was quickly into stride and from there, he went on to make the running.

With 400m left to run, Military Command was well clear, and the colt kicked away again to win as he liked by two lengths.
The Fire Away colt, an impressive winner last time out, has now won twice from just three starts and he looks to be an exciting prospect for the season ahead.

After the win, Peter Muscutt said, “I am ecstatic. Thought he won very well. Had a few anxious moments when he was in the barriers. He did the hard way but fortunately there was no wind today. Very big thanks to all the connections and my entire team.”

The winning rider said after his emphatic victory, “This was scintillating for everyone. He really impressed me last time out and is a picture of a horse. Coming off a suspension, I hoped to pull off a big one today, as I have another suspension coming up, and this made my day. Last time, he (Military Command) got a terrible jump and really pulled. Today, he got in at the back of the field, and had a much cleaner break. I was able to switch him off. There is a lot to look forward to.”

Bred by Kilimanjaro Bloodstock, Military Command was a R425 000 purchase from the 2024 Cape Premier Yearling Sale. The two-year-old, a half-brother to 2024 G3 TAB Pretty Polly Stakes runner up Famous Lady, is out of the twice winning High Chaparral mare Lady Val, whose dam Took is a half-sister to War Front’s smart sons Intelligence Cross and Sweet Orange.

Military Command races for Steve Sturlese in partnership with Messrs Da Silva, Hamilton, and Tony Zackey. Steve admitted in the post-race interview, “I was nervous before the race, and I didn’t think I could, after all this time!”
