CRS OCTOBER 2024 SOETENDAL ESTATE.

Many of the Cape’s top trainers entrust experienced horsewoman, Julia Pilbeam to prep and spell their thoroughbreds. Soetendal Estate is also a primary supporter of the CRS Breeze Up and Unbroken 2YO Sale and, once again, is well represented for the upcoming auction on Sunday, 27 October 2024, primarily acting as agent for vendors.

Here is a selection of tempting prospects from Soetendal’s appealing draft:

Lot 55, Dream Boat is by the same exciting stallion. Dam, Africa Blue is a half-sister to G1 Challenge victor, Deo Juvente; 7 x winner, Mina Salaam and 8 x winner, True to Life.

Lot 58 is a Rafeef filly and first foal from Bell Tower, an Ideal World mare who won five races. Second dam Zahir Shah threw G1 Summer Cup hero, Flying Carpet.

Lot 12, Scandalize is a Master of My Fate filly out of In a Huff, a half -sister to very promising Irridescence Stakes winner, Kinda Wonderful and Third Runway, who won the G2 Cape Fillies Championship and placed in the G1 Sceptre Stakes. This is her first foal.

Hollywoodboulevard is familiar to Highveld racegoers. The Aussie bred Street Cry mare held her own right up to G1 class (placed there and won a G3) and has since thrown some nice performers, including On that Boulevard and Walk of Fame. Her Vercingetorix colt is worth a careful inspection in Stable D20. This Breeze Up candidate will go under the gavel early on as Lot 8.

Lots 10 is by champion sire, Gimmethegreenlight – a filly out of Imperial Wish (Silvano.)

Such is his renown in the breeding sheds, that “Gimme” barely needs an introduction. Suffice to mention he’s the sire of 722 runners, 474 winners and 67 SW’s, including Got the Greenlight, Yulong Prince, Lucky Lad, Gimme a Nother, Green with Envy, Gimme a Prince, She’s a Keeper, Sandringham Summit etc.

Lot 17 is a One World colt. The stallion is the leading first season sire in SA for 2023/24 whilst the dam, Lady Wylie, is a half sister to multiple winning sprinter, Sergeant Hardy.

What a Winter is a fixture amongst the top five stallions in the country, having already produced five G1 winners. Lot 26, Matroosberg is the result of a covering of the Dynasty mare, Noor.

Nordic Light is part of a redoubtable female line. She is a three-quarter sister to Ice Wine and half sister to Rushing Wind & Nordic Breeze. This is the same family as Champion Sprinter, Rio Querari and Castle Tankard victor, Yer Maan. Check out Lot 27, her bay colt by Rafeef, who has already sired 20 SW’s from just 207 runners.

Soetendal also offer a Vercingetorix colt out of Master of My Fate mare, Patricia’s Gift – Lot 31. Second dam, Majestic Guest yielded globe trotting sprint sensation, JJ the Jet Plane.

Lot 34 is a Gimmethegreenlight colt ex Princess Milo, a half to G1 SA Classic and G1 Horse Chestnut Stakes winner, Slumdogmillionaire.

Astute buyers will be beating a path to Stable C33 where The Muffin Man can be located. He is by Rafeef out of Respectable Lady. All her foals are winners, including G1 Tsogo Sun Sprint victor, Bold Respect and Super Silvano who was placed in G1, G2 and G3 races over middle distances.

Still other intriguing propositions to check out are: Lot 63 Half Moon Island by Oratorio out of Cat’s Game (3/4 brother to Canadian Summer, the Champion 2YO filly in SA in 2021/22); Lot 41 Suppose You’ve Heard (bred on same Querari/Captain Al cross as high class, Questioning) and Lot 78, a chestnut filly bred on same What a Winter – Montjeu cross as multiple G1 phenom, Clouds Unfold.

Secretariat’s Girl (by Captain Al) won five races, and she has been put to Vercingetorix. The outcome is Lot 43 – a chestnut filly.

Leif Erikson comes next as Lot 44, an Erik the Red colt out of Secret Risk. This is an intriguing mating. Erik the Red was a very fast son of Captain Al whilst the best of Secret Risk’s progeny was Undercover Agent (by Captain Al) who was brilliant between 1400 and 1600 in SA (won the Drill Hall and G1 Gold Challenge) before relocating to be the Champion Miler in Mauritius.

Lot 49 is a Gimmethegreenlight filly out of Trinity House who won up to G3 level and was placed in G1’s. Best of her six foals to race is speedster, Blaze of Silk (Twice Over) who won six dashes.

Lot 54 is a first foal by Erupt, a son of Dubawi, and out of Zeta Jones, a three-quarter sister to Durban July winner, Marinaresco, Marina and Bulsara. The female side of Zen State’s page, especially the section featuring third dam Gay Regina, is potent.

Soetendal offer six unbroken 2YO’s, most being by the new American sire, Declarationofpeace, a son of War Front. His oldest progeny are these 2YO’s.

The absolut final CRS Lot 124 beckons – Driving Snow is a What a Winter colt ex Driving Miss Daisy. She was way better than her superficial record of two wins suggests as Eric Sands’’ filly competed with distinction in high class G1’s such as the Fillies Guineas, Paddock Stakes and Woolavington. This is her first foal.
